Expert Pruning & Structural Care | Arbor Viridis North Bay
Precision tree and shrub pruning by Northern Ontario's ISA Board Certified Master Arborist. We strictly follow ANSI A300 standards to enhance tree health and structure.
The Master Arborist Approach to Pruning
Pruning is a biological intervention. Every cut creates a wound that permanently alters the growth, structure, and defence systems of your tree. While a typical tree cutter might focus on just removing branches, we approach pruning as arboricultural scientists.
Led by Northern Ontario’s only ISA Board Certified Master Arborist, our pruning strategies are designed to reduce wind resistance, manage risk, improve fruit yield, and correct structural defects without compromising the tree’s natural immune system.
Our Pruning Services
Enhancing structural integrity, aesthetics, and tree health with cuts guided by ISA Board Certified Master Arborist expertise.
-
Targeted removal of dead, dying, or rubbing branches in mature canopies. We focus on crown cleaning and selective thinning to allow wind to flow through the tree safely, reducing the risk of storm failure during harsh North Bay winters.
-
Mature trees are less tolerant of heavy pruning. We use a "low-intensity" approach—removing no more than 10% of the live canopy—to maintain health without causing shock.
PRO TIP: It is better to remove a small amount of live foliage often than to remove a large amount all at once. -
Fruit trees require an entirely different biological approach. We provide specialized dormant and summer pruning for apples, pears, plums, and cherries. Our cuts are precision-timed to maximize sunlight penetration, increase airflow, spur fruit production, and prevent fungal diseases like Black Knot.
-
Delicate, hand-pruning of ornamental trees (such as Japanese Maples) and privacy hedges (such as Cedars). We shape for aesthetic beauty while respecting the natural growth habit, ensuring vibrant, dense foliage year after year.
-
The most important pruning a tree will ever receive happens in its first ten years. We establish a dominant central leader, space scaffold branches correctly, and eliminate co-dominant stems to ensure the tree grows structurally sound for decades.
“Proper pruning is one of the best things that can be done for a tree; Improper pruning is one of the worst things that can be done to a tree. ”
Don't Let Bad Pruning Ruin a Good Tree.
Poor pruning is a permanent mistake. Protect your landscape's value and safety by hiring a true tree scientist.
Dealing with a Split Trunk or Heavy V-Crotch?
Sometimes pruning alone isn't the answer. If a major branch or trunk union is at risk of splitting, cutting it off might ruin the tree. Explore our non-invasive [Tree Cabling & Bracing Services] to structurally support your tree without removing heavy limbs.
